DUBAI (Reuters) – Misbah-ul Haq to seek a better performance of his gardeners to the threat of Sri Lanka in the second Test starting in Dubai Sports City Stadium on Wednesday (today).
Pakistan snatched a draw from the jaws of victory by throwing at least seven catches for the people of Sri Lanka was the first race in Abu Dhabi last week, leaving the series of three tests tied. Led by left arm paceman Junaid Khan (5-38), Pakistan, Sri Lanka hit a low score of 197 after Misbah won the toss and elected to field and then took a huge 314 runs lead on the back of a career of 236 of Taufiq Umar.
But then the gardeners to lose a good chance of winning the first test of the catch on the fourth day droppingsix allowing Lahiru Thirimanne opening (68) and Kumar Sangakkara five times between them. Sangakkara, who got 211, then punished Pakistan for his fielding neglected to put together a record 201 runs sixth wicket represent Prasanna Jayawardene, who scored 120 to save a draw in Sri Lanka.
Misbah expected his players to work hard to overcome the weaknesses of fielding. “Slip capture has to do with confidence, as well as batting. We are looking forward to lots of practice, and forget the fielding effort in the first game and just go out and win,” said Misbah.
Since taking office Misbah instead of fixing scandal in England last year, which ended in a ban for former Test captain Salman Butt, Pakistan have not lost a series and the captain feels that Abu Dhabi is not going to tie affect them. “No one is down,” Misbah said when asked if players shot after spoiling a good opportunity.
Misbah said his players have practiced fielding drills. “After a performance (bad) in the field, we got two days, so we worked very hard on that, let’s hope for the best in the second test,” said Misbah, who played a minor niggle to Umar Gul.
“Gul is fine, a little stiffness, but no problem. We have all 15 players available for selection.” Pakistan can bring paceman Wahab Riaz experience, rather than Aizaz Cheema who managed just two wickets in the first test. Misbah agreed the pitch Dubai will have more bounce.
“The last time we played here, I had to turn some more and bounce a bit more, but I do not know how it will be this time. But as the match progresses, there is more spin and bounce and it is Abu Dhabi different, “he said.
Pakistan held off a stiff challenege South Africa in Dubai – the first test in place last year – after having been a great set target of 381 runs.
Sri Lanka also be carried out Suraj Randiv roulette instead of either seamers Nuwan Pradeep and Suranga Lakmal if the pitch at the Dubai Stadium has any chance of helping the spinners. Tillakaratne Dilshan captain said his team will have the psychological edge after avoiding defeat in the first game.
“I think it (draw) a big plus for us. We were far behind in the game and survived and since this is a long series we have to go hard in every game,” said Dilshan took office in May of the year past captain and Sri Lanka have not won a single test, losing 1-0 to England and Australia, in each of the three test series. Dilshan hoped his batsmen put a better show in the first innings. “We are overwhelmed by those of less than 200 runs and was very difficult to return and win the game,” said Dilshan proof of Abu Dhabi.
“We must get strong in the second test, especially in the first innings we have to put runs on the board so that this young bowling attack has a bit of confidence to bowl. We can not ask them to bowl with only 200 careers. Dilshan was concerned about his own batting form, having scored one half century in the last four tests.
“Yes, it is a concern, but I’m sure I can get running in the middle order and I hope that in the second test, with five days of cricket every one needs to perform,” said Dilshan. The third test will be held in Dubai from November 3-7. Dilshan batter expected to pull their socks and score in the first inning after being shot outside a mere 197 in the first trial ended in a draw in Abu Dhabi last week.
It takes 211 bright Kumar Sangakkara and Prasanna Jayawardene fight to save 120-Sri Lanka’s defeat, but not before Pakistan gardeners fell to seven sacks. Dilshan said he hoped for a better batting performance. “We had a discussion in which the area to improve and did so in the training sessions. As a batting unit we are prepared to do well in this test,” said Dilshan. “Confidence is very high which made its way back (against Sri Lanka) and did so much to save,” said Dilshan.
