The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions. Each chapter of Jamal’s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show’s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its storytelling lies the question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love. Written by Fox Searchlight Pictures

Eighteen year old Jamal Malik is having an amazing answering streak on the Indian version of the television game show, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”. He’s only one correct question away from the big prize. However, some, including those associated with the game show, question how someone like Jamal, a self confessed non-genius who grew up in the slums of Mumbai, can be doing so well on the show when others who are brighter, more educated and wealthier than him have failed. Is Jamal cheating? Is it purely luck that they have asked him the questions to which he knows the answers? Seeing Jamal’s life journey to this point ultimately answers these questions. His life journey includes being orphaned at an early age; growing up with an older brother, Salim, who was both his guardian/protector and antagonist; and having a relationship since childhood with another orphaned child, a girl named Latika. His motivation for being on the show also may provide some answers to his success. Perhaps it was all just meant to be. Written by Huggo

In Mumbai, the eighteen year-old orphan from the slums Jamal Malik is tortured by the policemen in a precinct accused of cheating a game show. Jamal, who has no education and works in a call center serving tea, is close to wining twenty million rupees in the show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” hosted by Prem Kumar, giving precise answers to the questions and raising suspicion of fraud. The police inspector shows the videotape and after each question, Jamal tells parts of his childhood with his brother Salim, his crush for Latika and their fight to survive on the streets to justify each correct answer, guided by his common sense and past experience,

Sonam Kapoor sizzles on the latest issue of Verve
Name: sonam1.jpg Views: 0 Size: 81.8 KB
We told you this will happen and look…this is all happening, right here, right now! We are indeed talking about the rise, rise and super-rise of the ‘Surp-rise’ discovery of 2007, Sonam Kapoor, who is having the whole of 2009 going in her favour! On the professional front, on one hand, while she has been chosen as the Brand Ambassador of the cosmetic giant L’Oreal and a big film (Delhi 6) lined up for release, on the other; she is all over the place as being the cover-girl of a trillion mags.

This chic’s latest conquest is the latest issue of the uber-cool magazine Verve, for which she has done an exclusive photo-shoot which was shot on the sunny beaches of the Maldives. One look at those ‘holiest-than-thou’ snaps and you are bound to get impressed with her zest for life, the love and cheer she spreads liberally and a sharply discerning mind that doesn’t allow for compromise. Full marks to Verve for discovering the undiscovered aspects of the petite Sonam Kapoor.

Lastly, what one observes is that, those (read ‘critics’) who had panned and pulled Sonam Kapoor down immediately after her Bollywood debut vehicle Saawariya will now have to eat their own words now. Welcome aboard… Sonam Kapoor!

Akshay Kumar on the cover of ‘Complete Wellbeing’ magazine

Akshay Kumar is certainly the man of the moment. First it was courtesy his much hyped film CC2C (which eventually bombed at the B.O.) and then it was due to the fact that he received the prestigious Padma Shri honour. Now the ‘Khiladi‘ of Bollywood is seen on the cover page of the ‘Complete Wellbeing’ magazine this month.

The ‘Complete Wellbeing’ magazine has yet again managed to showcase a major celebrity in a different light. The February issue of ‘Complete Wellbeing’, is a ‘Life Energy’ special issue and hence it comes as no surprise that the issue features none other than Akshay Kumar- one of the most energetic, fit and successful actors of the Hindi film industry

In an exclusive interview, Akki speaks about how instead of slowing down with age, he has only picked up speed and gotten better. He also reveals the mature and grounded side of him, which is in stark contrast with his bubbly and energetic side. “Life is super-hectic-you barely have time to take a deep breath, and the stress never seems to go away. To cope with this, you need to be physically fit and be able to find your inner balance,” says Akshay.

Speaking on the choice of Akshay Kumar for their ‘Life Energy’ special issue, Manoj Khatri, Editor and Publisher of ‘Complete Wellbeing’ says, “Usually people associate energy with a healthy body. But, like in Akshay’s case, a healthy mind too plays a very important role in making a person energetic. You cannot be energetic and give your best even though you are physically fit if you are feeling low,”

Besides featuring Akshay Kumar in a no-holds barred interview, the February issue also has over 12 articles based on energy that all cover areas of an individual’s life. It also has fitness tips from Hollywood trainer Mike Ryan, power dressing tips, 10 Top Energy Foods and much more.

Minissha Lamba graces the cover of Andpersand

The sensational cover of the latest issue of the Andpersand has the super-sensational Minissha Lamba. Man, her eyes are enough for any dreaded terrorist group to drop their arms and surrender! Minissha Lamba, for starters, always wanted to be a journalist, who, then, eventually landed up in Bollywood.

We are sure that you just did not know that, with CNN’s international correspondent Christiane Amanpour for inspiration, our lady in question, would have loved to interview the likes of Sonia Gandhi, Martin Luther King, John Lennon and James Dean , in that order! She also speaks all about her pastimes, films…and also gives words (read ‘peals’) of wisdom like “The novelty of the bikini should have worn off by now, especially the kind of shows you have on cable TV”.

Neither the story ends there nor does the girl stop. She is simply unbeatable when it comes to giving interviews. And this interview is surely a standing testimony to this.
