  • Accurate 7 day weather forecasts are provided for any location in the US or entire world.
  • 3-6 hour forecasts offer just the right amount of details to help you plan your day and don’t clutter your screen like 24 1-hour forecasts.
  • Current location (GPS) feature will automatically update the app with your location and will show weather forecasts anywhere you travel.
  • Interactive weather maps are available for all US locations for temperature, humidity, cloud cover and precipitation chance. Armed with these maps you can easily plan a weekend getaway that you will enjoy.
  • Weather forecasts are displayed in Live tiles right on your start screen, so you don’t need to open the app to get a general idea about what to expect.
  • You can pin as many of these tiles as you want and arrange them any way you like.
  • The app also provides convenient “Summary view” that shows forecast for all locations on a single screen.
  • Instead of showing distracting background videos that run in constant loops, we’ve provided many HD quality photographs that periodically change depending on the current weather forecast and season. And we will keep adding more in the future.
  • You also have the ability to add your own photos as background for any forecast location. “Elements” goes beyond just weather.
  • It also shows information about when sun and moon rise and set.
  • “Elements” supports English, metric and nautical measurement units and lets you choose them separately for any property. You can mix and match – e.g., you can view wind speed in meters/second, temperature in Fahrenheit, distance in miles and precipitation amount in inches!
  • “Elements” can always be accessed from Windows Search to get a quick forecast.
  • “Elements” delivers forecasts in your language! User interface is translated into English, French and German. More languages will be made available in the future.
  • We are always open to user feedback. If you have any thoughts about the app – let us know and we will make sure that the next version will always be better than the current.

As expected, Microsoft released a “Consumer Preview” of Windows 8 at an event during the Mobile World Congress on February 29th. The preview, which is essentially a beta version of the upcoming desktop and tablet OS, is available for download at Microsoft’s website.

We’ve previously reported on some of the interesting features appearing in Windows 8, but Microsoft is definitely making a push for simplicity and cross-platform usability. The OS uses a new interface—first seen on Windows Phone—called “Metro” which consists of colorful tiles designed to be intuitive and easy to use. The Ribbon interface from Microsoft Office also appears often in Windows 8, mostly in Explorer windows. Although a traditional desktop mode is available, it’s obvious that Microsoft wants users to transition to the new Metro interface paradigm.

Windows 8 is unique among current OS’s in that it is intended for use on both desktop computers and tablets. The Metro interface is clearly designed for touch input, and a version of the OS is planned for ARM processors, which are prevalent in the mobile market due to lower power requirements. Microsoft wants users to be able to seamlessly transition between various Windows 8 desktop computers and mobile devices, with special features such as the ability to tie a user account to a Microsoft online account so a user’s settings, bookmarks, and contacts can automatically sync to a new computer at login.

Microsoft is certainly making a gamble with Windows 8. The company wants customers to buy into the entire Windows ecosystem, owning a compatible desktop computer, tablet and smartphone, using all three together to form a cohesive experience. It’s certainly an attractive thought, but whether this will ever actually happen remains to be seen. Tablets such as the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab series are still wildly popular, and smartphones running iOS and Android still dominate the mobile market. Windows 8 is still viable as a desktop-only operating system and will undoubtedly be adopted by a huge portion of the PC market, but Microsoft’s overall strategy depends on the ability of its hardware partners to sell mobile devices running Windows 8.

The retail release of Windows 8 is expected in September or October of this year, although an official date has not been set.
